International film and television star Van Vicker debuts in America with LisaRaye McCoy’s “Skinned.”
Directed by LisaRaye McCoy and Avery Williams, the movie has been selected for numerous film festivals.
Nominated for awards at the Pan African Film Festival, Bronzelens Film Festivals, and others, no doubt TV One, the network that delivers entertainment and real life programs through the African-American point of view, is set to air this historical movie on Saturday, Jan 9, 2016.
For this project, Van Vicker was thrilled. “When I got the script and came to know the subject matter that’s a worldwide issue associated with color of people, I felt obliged and grateful to be a part of a film about skin bleaching in both poverty-stricken and rich nation,” said Vicker. It’d be the first time a film on such a subject with African Van Vicker will be aired on national TV in the US.
LisaRaye McCoy, actress, made her debut with the movie ” Skinned” which revolves around the story of Jolie, a young girl that’s not satisfied with her own skin color and the stereotype that is associated with dark skinned people, so she uses skin whitening products to change her complexion.
The toxic chemicals in the skin lightening products have vast effect on her skin and mental health. This film relates to self confidence, color, acceptance, and being satisfied with your natural looks.
The move, ‘Skinned’ was shot in Atlanta by Studio 11 Films, Divine Entertainment Intl., and Lot10 Productions in collaboration with Sky+Orange Productions. The film was executive produced by Dr. Kulah, Lotten Yeaney, and Sharon Tomlinson.
