Who did it for an award this year? This is quite easy because it’s Bisa, sorry Stonebwoy you need to work more… not even Gasmilla EL rather. But Sarkodie and Shatta Wale did a lot.
Let me know… what an artist should do for getting the award, in your view? Is it the only one who deserves award every time? Or is it the one who got big hits?
For you it may be this, but the one who shows a lot of zeal and impress through the charm, and get the attention of the crowd for all year. Or maybe it is an amalgamation of some, or all the above which I said. In the end, I think it’s all about hard work, those who worked for this, or at least showed his skills. This is also not that easy like another adventure to measure some one’s hard work…
Calculating hard work in music is specifically tough and can be diplomatic, because we all like someone and know some vital facts about them so we can protect them, in front of someone. But we all should say yes, that a performer’s efforts should be shown and tough to question. We all should appreciate his persistence and determination culture.
What about Gasmilla… Surely it is considered as the best year for the international fisherman. All the way he came from Aboodatoi and got settled very quickly. Certainly in 2011, since entered in the showbiz, he has launched a pretty inspiring prospectus: 3points, Letter to the Government, Falefale, and Telemo….
But this year, it’s confirmed that even he has amazed him. By giving one hit song he gained great popularity this year than any other man you may think of just right now. No problem if he released his song very early in 2014.
And it’s different about the song. Why one song hits in one day, another take all year? Whatever as I told you that Telemo became a national fascination and many more door became open for him about some we probably knows. Hard work can be shown in the impact. But is one song sufficient or can one song be enough?
Bisa KDei deserves to be an artist of the year because of the fact that he is reviving a dangerous genre. This year Bisa has not only launched two of his songs which are charming and lovely for the highlife question, but he has launched his whole work (his 10 tracks sophomore album, Breakthrough was released on 21 December). This proves that Bisa wants to stay in this field for long not like the short lived commercial songs.
When someone is nominated for the award like the artist of the year, that man definitely has to show that how much he has concern for his work. We must admit that person is surely working with full determination, for three or four years, Bisa KDei has become popular across the counter and has given two sober albums. Here nearly anyone knows. But he chose highlife again because it is a condition of highlife. Bisa is living according to it and gives one song at a time. Bisa gives vocals for the other artist’s songs, he makes music for himself and others also, he performs on all the main stages, and skipping the issues very nicely. Bisa is becoming very brave and this amazing.
EL is also a hard worker. He also did a lot for music this year that is cannot be neglected. He deludes the arrangement of genres in this town, left an impact on all. But when we start noticing that how he did all this, nothing came out and if something would come out then everyone will start doing the same. Here is a highlife song with Afro Harmony, inspiring stuff with the rock band Dark Suburb and a lot more with azonto… tempo songs and cooperation showing all around us. Does not matter what type of song you slant at, you have the best opportunity if you got EL in your Playlist. He is launching his album this year, and on one thing I am sure about the quality on ELOM, and it’s not all about the humorous titles of the songs in the album.
He is known as a genius because he is sending to the above genre, he is also providing to hip hop, by conciliate with his B.A.R mixtapes, in regular manner also… For example THE B.A.R ll has made to fuel the conversation that wanted to be the best African Rapper, about what B.A.R stands for him. The B.A.R with his mixtapes, has made the standards high hip hop in Ghana many scores up. Many other rappers have to dumb down their lyrics, he is the only one among the few who are demonstrating lyricism and consciousness with their version of hip hop. With the help of his new mixtape also he has to protect his endearment for hip hop, he also has to acknowledge why he has to sell his genre prior starts selling.
As I was saying, I expect a lot for EL, in real life know as Elom Adablah and his ELOM album, because people love genuine music. But he has done so much with the B.A.R ll you cannot take his mixtape for granted. Certainly his performance on American Passport, song off his early installment, he got the Rapper of the year at the VGMAs, therefore its mixtapes are hard to handle. Everyone should listen his mixtape, it’s got 19 songs on it and these are very good. If you cannot listen all the 19 songs, but at least the following: We No Dey Hear, State of the Nation and 10 Rap Commandments. Specifically, these songs are for persuading on ambition and challenges which is for all the people. Let’s discuss depth, vision, observation, honesty in music, and the art of social commentary.
Did I state that he makes songs also? Do not even get me started with these things that already his Koko is doing.
Do not worry, I will not mention New Guy, because it was a flop which amazed me still. But I have to say that Dumsor was one of the most Googled songs this year. Sarkodi probably not be the top musician in your list this year, because he did not release any hits this year, but think about this that he also gave many hits this year which erected our ears. Dumsor, Fress Press, The Masses, Mewu and now, Hand to Mouth. He has crowed the both Apollo Theatre and the Accra International Conference Centre. He’s done a lot of traveling also. He has got all the great stages in Ghana and a lot more. But the popularity he has attained this year I would suspect if several of the other artists on your list have attained. It is a legal interrogation if you want to do.
Above all, if you are keen for something intensely than radio danceable, he has done something for you. He completed this in two years and known as art work. His Mary album, which was made at the request and dedicated to Mary Lokko, his late grandmother considered as compendious, pitiful and artistic stuff he did for so long. It is also considered as the most commercial aviation. It is biased that we demand that artists launched healthy art, and when they done it, we do not consider it like other stuff.
At the end Sarkodie probably his own devil, he got great success with his new projects, about which we are unaware of, instead of value them. That is why Sarkodie is at the bottom of your list.
Stonebwoy Burniton, what should I say, do you think after winning Artist of the year at the VGMAs he would get slow. No, he is still doing hard work. This is the point of view of my friend Nana Poku Amankwah who is a music expert and he thinks that I can trust, except when he starts on needless emotionality when talking about Shatta Wale.
Stone bwoy gave more hits than any other artist of this year, else has one or two? What do you feel when you hear Go Higher? Gosh, I feel the same way too, it is so different to pray and worship at church.
It could make you cry or you could dance it in joy, such elating and melodious it is. Let’s consider President Mahama’s own favorite, Shekeena too along with Shell Dem, Come Over, Gbedegbede, talk to me, zongo girl, and the Christmas carol, Mightylele. And talk about Mightylele, what an amazing song! He has been constituted for many awards of which he has achieved almost very big award. I won’t highlife the BET because you are familiar with that. But the Bass Awards and the African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMA) are also there. He is such an epitome as he has performed on almost every major stage, not only in Ghana, as he has been travelling a lot (recently with legendary Morgan Heritage). Also, he’s been connected with l- Octane, Nyovest, Burnaboy, such major players who are!
In my opinion this year, Shatta Wale has also done a tremendous job… in fact more than that.. You have to regard his artisan. I am telling you, it is incredible!
Now the fact is that at the age of 31 he has released enough material for a lifetime, nobody could actually count the number of songs as they are too many which are released since his rebirth.
Only this year, he has released a number of songs in a 20 year career more than 90. The producer of which is he, himself. That is like if he has releasing a 10 track album by now.
When in a song he says “I am overdosed with music”, it is more than my word as he is also working on the songs of many other artists.
You cannot discuss him in a few paragraphs because he has been working the whole year. His songs have been leading the music industry, especially Kakai and Chop kiss. He has also been nominated for many awards, not only within the country but outside the country as well. He was the most seen person this year but still he is the crowd’s favorite.
Sure, VVIP too, MzVee, Adomaa, all who go by the name Easy, no matter how they spell it, Okyeame Knwame, M.anifest, Atom, Rocky Dawuni, Samini, Kofi Kinaata, Efya, Kwaw Kesse, Reggie, and Bollie, Praye, Promzy, Countryman Songo, D- Black and everyone else with “D” in their names, Mugeez, Omar Sterling / Paedae or R2Bees altogether. And everyone else you are about to mention. Are we cool now? Alright then…
Wisa? Eh …? Pardon me! Why would you even refer her. For an only song and that too exposing manhood distinctively smaller than the Ga Man? Oh, you should avoid saying things like that. How would you take it if someone laughs at your good. Stop that! Unlike you, I wish him well, and I am “kiiked” by him. I wish he learns a necessary lesson and becomes a better man.
