The Grammy award nominee, Rocky Dawuni of Ghana has boasted his achievement of taking Ghana’s music to the international level, but lamented the incompetence of many Ghanaian reggae songs to attract patronage from other nationals.
The “In Ghana” singer comes from Northern Ghana but was born in Tema. The US based Ghanaian reggae musician’s 6th studio album “Branches of the Same Tree” made him the first Ghanaian singer to get nominated in the world’s biggest awards in the Best Reggae Album category with four best Jamaican musicians including Jah cure, Morgan heritage, Barrington Levy and Luciano.
He stated that, though most the Ghanaian artists travelled to the US to perform at different shows but their songs don’t have enough potential to attract other nationals.
He said at the time he represent Ghana on international platforms, which is not far from the reality because his nomination at the Grammys is a clear sign of a determined musician whose tracks are loved all over the world.
