Police to meet celebrities over “Dumsor” campaign

According to the local media, “The police have already set a meeting with some of the celebrities organizing a “Dumsor must stop” campaign on Thursday.”

The organizers include top Ghanaian celebrities, actresses Yvonne Nelson and Lydia Forson, comedian DKB and rapper Sarkodie.

According to the letter issues by the lawyers of the celebrities has already warned the police forces that the group intends to embark on a vigil on May 16, 2015 at the University of Ghana.

The event will take place at the stadium grounds of the University of Ghana from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

The meeting has already been postponed due to a busy schedule for the organizers, as they are busy preparing for the campaign.

The recent power crisis within the country has raised frustrations among the stars, which has turned into the campaign against the current Mahama led government.

Police official’s claims, “According to the Public Order Act, 1994, any group seeking to organize a public event must take permission from the police in written.”

The organizers response, “We have already written a letter to the Police asking for clearance and protection for the event as vigil will be in the “form of a peaceful procession with lit candles, torches, lanterns and bobo.”

The West African country is facing power supply problems in the past one year, which has yet to be solved by the current government, as people are losing their jobs.
