Jack Alolome, Kumasi-based Gospel musician says he will never sing for free of cost in a church because as an artist he needs money to fulfill his fundamental needs.
The hit maker of “God will make a way”, has said that music is all I do so i cannot be playing free shows and beg others for money to take care of my family.
Jack Alolome was answering to a question on why Gospel musicians have to charge money to minister in a church who say they are doing the work of God.
Alolome stated that he has been invited to perform in churches and then he realized that the show had been sponsored but these churches only pay him the charges of transporting.
He questioned, to perform in a church how can I travel to Accra from Kumasi and after the program, you get a small amount in an envelope and expect me to be satisfactory when I need to pay my utility bills?
He further added that I’ll open the envelope and if the amount is only for transport, I will bother the organizers of the show that since the show is sponsored, they must add something more to it.
Rev. Duter Mensah of ICGC stated the Gospel musicians shouldn’t consider their profession as a money making venture, but a profession to do the work of God. He adds that if music is the only thing they are involved in then they must be paid well to support them take care of their families.
He stated as a Pastor for ICGC, he for instance does no work apart from working, hence he is paid a pay at the end of the month.
