Kwaku Manu is based from Kumasi. He has fired back at colleague actors and people who disapprove and differentiate against the actors in Akan. Their speaking movies are known as “Kumawood”.
He stated that critics call them ‘illiterates’ because they believe that they cannot express themselves accurately in the English language which is not created on fact.
According to Kwaku, he was not born to speak English. So he does not have any dream of acting in any English movies.
The Award winning Actor revealed on the live media transmission that, he does not dislike anyone in the Ghanaian Movie industry; although he has a lot of friends in the industry who perform in English movies.
He could not understand that why some of his colleagues in the English movie field will criticize the Kumawood actors for the cause of the language change.
He expresses that they are not any part of criticism and are ready to admit any supportive suggestions from colleague actors and the general public as a complete. What they cannot take he said is the insults and calling them as “villagers”.
Kwaku Manu is famous for his sense of humor, stated that though he is working hard in Ghana and money, he will not take part in any an English language movie.
He added that If any movie producer request for me to cast in any (English speaking) role, I won’t accept the suggestion because I believe whatever my colleague actors who speak English do I can do alike and even better in Twi.
“The Ghanaian movie industry is not made up of one person so if some people in the industry think they are better because they speak English and we are nothing then so be it.
He declares that many actors and actresses performing on TV cannot write English correctly and they are only directed by the script as given. They learn it like a poem only to convince the viewers, but they are nobody.
