There have been many anxieties about the movie industry; actors, actresses along with some directors have appeared to voice out, about the upsetting nature of the Ghana Movie industry, which has caused in actors and actresses such as Yvonne Nelson, Kafui Danku, Juliet Ibrahim, Prince David Osei, Eddie Nartey and more making their own movies.
Beverly Afaglo being the most recent to increase such worries. He has exposed his purposes of joining the Kumasi Platform (Kumawood) because the Movie Industry here in Accra is failing.
Actor John Dumelo has not stepped a foot in the Capital Accra, Ghana in about five months. He’s been in Dubai, Canada, UK, Amsterdam and other places, making presences at occasions and as well delight in some holidays in those days.
From observation, for some time now, the actor spends much more time outside his homeland, which in most circumstances affect the stability in the movie industry but in John’s case it hasn’t.
In an interview, John Dumelo was asked why he doesn’t like to stay in Ghana and the award-winning actor was rapid to answer back:
Well, I know, but the likes of Abdul Sallam Mumuni and other movie makers have denied to cast me in recent times for one cause or the other, I can’t actually say why”.
It could be the point that, these popular actors are a lot more costly now and producers do not get their money’s amount from the cinema premieres and marketing of television rights when they pay large amounts for artists.
When questioned if John will be departure anytime soon, he supposed that I’m here to stay, I have work and other plans coming up so I’m absolutely not looking at leaving soon. I’m here for now.
Well, only time will tell. On Sunday, John Dumelo was last pictured in the Volta Region at the Catholic Church, as to what he’s working on, it’s still uncertain.
