Organizers of the 2015 Most Influential Young Ghanaian have supported the list declared earlier this year.
The New Year started with the release of the 2015 Most Influential Young Ghanaian list, a list that identified 50 young Ghanaians who have inspired the country with their work in all areas of life.
After the list was released, many questioned its integrity, as actress Yvonne Nelson, rapper Sarkodie and dancehall artists Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy didn’t make it to the list after their great contribution to different sectors in 2015.
Other Ghanaian entertainers who were included in the list were,
Actor John Dumelo, singer Rebecca Acheampong popularly known as Becca, Movie Producer, Shirley Frimpong Manso, Tv personality, Peace Hyde and actress Juliet Ibrahim.
Responding to the controversy, Managing Director of Advance Media, Prince Akpah said only people who have influenced the country within the last two years have made it to the list.
“We haven’t selected people because they gained a lot of things in 2015, it’s a project based solely on research not social media, and we calculated the influence reach of everyone for the last two years in active service.”
Actress Yvonne Nelson launched the #dumsormuststop campaign on social media and extended with vigil on May 16, 2015 in Accra in which many Ghanaians took part.
Stonebwoy won the Best International Act: Africa at the 2015 Black Entertainment Television Awards (BET), he also won three awards – Artiste of the Year, Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year and Reggae/Dancehall Song of the Year at the Ghana Music Awards.
Charles Nii Armah aka Shatta Wale had also been very prominent with his music, he released almost 95 songs in 2015.
Prince Apkah admitted that a lot of people did great work but not everyone can be included in the list because it’s limited to just 50 people all over Ghana. “Everyone has done great things in 2015 and this list is exclusive to just 50 individuals across the country.”
He stated that, if the work of other individuals could not be included to the list, does not make full ranking of 50 most influential people invalid.
