Legendary actress, Maame Dokono has said that internal strife in the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the self-centered interests of some party members of Parliament could cost them presidency in the upcoming general elections.
In an interview, Maame Dokono, privately known as Grace Omaboe revealed she feels sorry for the party’s flag-bearer, Nana Akufo-Addo, as he has very low chances of being elected as the president of Ghana because of the level of internal strife.
“We are fighting with each other. At this time, there are like four cases in court, besides that many people have decided to vote for the independent candidates and it can affect our votes. I feel sorry for Nana Addo because it seems that the MPs of NPP are after their selfish interests. They don’t care about Nana or the party itself. They only have concern with going to the parliament and taking ex-gratia and other reimbursements,” she said.
Maame Dokono thinks that the deteriorating economic condition of the country cannot bring success to the NPP unless there is harmony between party members.
For quite some time now, the NPP has been trying so hard to maintain the peace with allegations and counter-allegations being exchanged between the party members.
