Ghanaian dancehall artist, Jupitar has expressed that he is the only Ghanaian artist who does proper dancehall music.
His remark returned on the of attestations by some showbiz savants and music enthusiasts that his smash hit song “Flame” which stares Stonebwoy is not dancehall and in this manner did not qualify to earn a nomination as the Reggae/Dancehall Song of the Year in the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards 2016.
The song has been nominated alongside ‘Serwaa Akoto’ by Blakk Rasta, ‘Hold Me Now’ by MzVee, ‘It’s So Crazy’ by De Voice, ‘Go Higher’ by Stonebwoy and “Holiday” by AK Songstress.
While the media persons were remarking on which of the tracks should not be nominated, Jupitar’s “Fire” was specified as one of them.
A message from Jupitar in response which was put out by the well-known host, Sammy Flex, says, ‘I’m the only proper Ghanaian dancehall/reggae artist. So anything I drop ought to be considered as dancehall or reggae music. Period!
Jupitar confirmed all the claims, when asked on telephone. As indicated by him, he is holding the fortification than any other artist in Ghana. He contended that his song should be nominated since it is dancehall and dill well the year under audit.
‘Once in a while, it’s not about the verses and content that qualifies it as dancehall or hip-hop or any other genre’, he said.
As opposed to the claims, the maker of Jupitar’s ‘Flame’, Genius Selection, expressed on the same stage that the song does not qualify to be nominated as dancehall.
‘I know, it doesn’t fall within the dancehall/reggae category. It has a Francophone feel. I’ll make a reference to the Magic System, ‘Amoulanga’’ soon, he finished.
